Hello everyone, this is Jack Ravi. This is my last journal as part of the Design Team of the Graphics Fairy and since it’s nearly Valentine’s Day, I thought about creating a chocolate-themed journal.
This journal is softbound and is made of five signatures that are stitched directly to the cover. To achieve the effect of the old chocolate wrapping of the cover, I boiled and stained some metallic wrapping paper. Inside the journal I incorporated vintage chocolate and coffee advertisements.
I also included some actual chocolate wrappings, foil and chocolate coins.
Throughout the journal there are images taken from some vintage fashion magazines. I combined 1950s Italian fashion with recipes and original ads from the time.
There is a little booklet that can be used to write recipes, as well as a bookmark/tag that says: “Count the memories.”
I used a variety of brown and creamy fabrics alongside the different papers, and some of the scraps left behind were combined in tiny bundles that I attached to some pages.
I labelled some pages with names of famous chocolate cakes and desserts from across the world.
I chose original photos from my collection that showed picnics, birthday and Christmas parties, and even a wedding with a lovely lady having a cheeky drink.
If you’ve seen some of my other journals you’ll probably know that I often like to scent the pages, so obviously in this case I chose a cocoa butter fragrance oil to soak the paper.
The oil was also handy in helping reveal some of the image transfers.
I hope you like my journal and that it makes you a little hungry ;).
Thank you for reading!
