Kids Jewelry Making Idea!
Hello dear Graphics Fairy fans!
Candie Cooper here with a rainy day craft project for you and the kids. It’s been a very dreary day today so I’m combating it with some coloring (in other words, chiseling myself off the ceiling).
Hand tinted images are one of my favorite looks when it comes to vintage graphics. The Graphics Fairy has a ton of black and white images that are begging for you to hand tint. Check out the “Black and White” category to the right to find some images you and your little ones would like to color. I was especially smitten with the hermit crab as I had a pet one growing up named Hermy (original, I know).
Print the images onto a heavier copy paper (not card stock, but not the stuff you can see through either). I take mine to a professional printer because I don’t want the ink to bleed when Mod Podging, but you can use an ink jet printer with a good quality ink too (the word on the street is HP works well).
Sharpen up those pencils and start coloring! Colored pencils work well because they won’t bleed either when Mod Podging. Can you tell I really thought this one through? No craft fails for us!
Cut out the images and paint a thin, even coat of Mod Podge Gloss on top of the image.
Press the acrylic pendant piece on top of the image and set aside to dry. The acrylic pieces can be found in the scrapbooking or Mod Podge section of the craft store. It’s really cool how they magnify the colored image just a little bit to make it extra sharp. Love that craft magic!
Trim away the excess paper…. (that was probably a “duh” statement, but just in case)
and carefully open up the hole through the pendant with a needle.
Attach a pinch bail to the pendant by lining up the prongs with the hole and pinching it shut. Yep, not just a clever jewelry finding name! You can find pinch bails in the jewelry making section of the craft store OR use a large jump ring.
String the pendants onto hemp, with or without beads. Knot or tie the ends in a bow.
Speaking of rainy day fun, check out my blog to see how to make this oil pastel and watercolor painting.
Or these sparkly berry earrings!
Bright skies and creative days to you!
Smiling,
Candie
