Letter Writing Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Gina Testa of Gina Makes It, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Letter Writing Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Gina tell you all about her incredible project…
Sometimes, I find the best way to get myself out of a creative rut is by trying something new. While I always admired folios, with all of their flips and tucks, I never really made one. For this month’s Graphics Fairy Design Team project, I decided to make one to store some letter writing supplies.
I started with a manila file folder that I cut down to roughly 8.5 x 11” and covered it using a combination of beautiful floral papers found in multiple bundles on the Premium Membership Site. I then started planning all of my flip outs and flip ups using avocado dyed papers, cardstock, and vintage papers. I even used the pre-made bookmarks from the Jane Austen Embroidery themed bundle because I love how all of the ladies looked lined up on the left-hand side.
I used some coffee-dyed paper to line the backside of the bookmarks and attached a paper heart doily for use as a pocket. On the facing page, I created multiple envelopes from various templates using a beautiful light vellum. I stuffed these envelopes with floral ephemera and dried flowers. Beneath these envelopes, I stashed a clean white traveler’s notebook to journal in.
All of these items were tucked into a vintage piece of lace I used to create a belly band. On the underside of this piece of cardstock, I decided to create a pocket and display a lovely lady sitting in her garden. Inside of the pocket, I tucked some vintage embossed stationary. I lined the bottom half of the folio with some wallpaper found in the Cottage Wallpaper themed bundled, created a tuck spot with ephemera from the Emma bundle.
I created a middle flip out using another file folder I covered with wallpaper I downloaded from the Premium Membership site. I lined the inside with floral paper from The Beekeeper’s Cottage, placed a vintage magazine article in the middle with an avocado-dyed doily in the middle as a pocket. I placed some tags on each side and some additional ephemera printed and trimmed from the site.
Adjacent to the middle flip, I created a mini flip pocket with some vintage music and some butterflies I fussy-cut from the Delicate Butterflies themed bundle. On the flipside of this panel, I created a pocket with some vintage lace, lined the background with some Pastel Wallpaper, and ticked some more stationary and tags inside. On the left I tied up and placed some dainty stationary for safekeeping.
On the backside, I created a pocket with some avocado-dyed vellum and stuffed it with some beet juice-dyed paper and a mini file folder.
Let’s take a tour of it together:
