Life on the Sea Journal
Hey, everyone! Angela Senechal of Maker Mom, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a beautiful Life on the Sea Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Angela tell you all about her incredible project…
Hi everyone! I’m so glad to be here sharing my final journal using graphics from the Graphics Fairy Premium Membership Site. It’s been a great year creating journals and sharing them here with you. Thank you, Graphics Fairy, for giving me the opportunity to work with your beautiful, curated kits! Now on to the details of “Life on the Sea.” This journal was inspired by warm temperatures and my love for the water. After doing a search on The Graphics Fairy Site and seeing all the sea/beach graphics, I immediately started printing and assembling my signatures. This journal has three signatures. I used the hidden binding technique which is my go-to method. The nook itself is a vintage hardcover Algebra textbook.
To decorate the cover, I used an image of a little girl (who I named Emma). She is having fun playing with the fishing net that her brother left behind. We will meet him later inside the journal. I embellished the front corner cover with a piece of real fishing net and an anchor charm.
The inside of the journal is full of maps, photos of life on the sea and on shore, as well as postcards, invoices, and unique journaling spots!
I used vintage nautical photos (from the “Instant Ancestors” bundle). This woman is Emma’s mother. She has always had a deep love for the sea and Emma and Emma’s brother, James, seem to be taking after her!
Of course, life on the sea includes collecting beautiful seashells. Emma’s family would take pictures of and document the shores from which they collected different shells.
The children loved to play cards while out at sea. So, this page has a sweet Sailor boy pocket that contains some of their playing cards. These cards would be great to do some mixed media art on! For the card I created, I added some white paint, a bit of script and anchor washi tape, then layered some thread, a vintage beach photo and a starfish charm. And voila!
And this is Emma’s brother, James. Fishing is his most favorite thing to do! He was always so proud of his catch of the day.
I made a beautiful tag with a picture of Emma and James grown up. They didn’t prefer getting all dressed up, but they knew it made momma happy!
To add interest to the page I used distressed texture paste to stencil on some seashells. This is a lovely tuck spot holding a piece of stationary. A great place for journaling their day out at sea!
Thank you for visiting today. I hope you’ve been inspired. Below is a detailed video of “Life on the Sea” as well as a list of all the Graphics Fairy Premium Membership

Angela – What a lovely journal, love this style. It has the appearance of a journal that she would have used and carried with her daily. I love your selection of the different selections you choose from the GF kits. There are so many wonderful selections that sometimes gets a bit overwhelming. Can you please tell me what material was used to make the page that you mounted the picture of her selling flowers? I love the texture that this gives but it still looks soft. Thank you sharing this beautiful journal. Pamela A/PA

Hi Pamela, I will ask Angela to stop by and give you an answer to your question.

Thank you so much, Pamela, for taking the time to comment on Miss Ella’s journal! She was a joy to create!
That particular piece is a dryer sheet (not used 😉) and was rust dyed. It was included in a paper pack that I purchased on Etsy.
Blessings,
Angela
