Oceanside Junk Journal
Hey everyone. Design Team member Anna Hollingworth of Leximbue Journals created a fabulous Oceanside Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series! Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Anna tell you all about her lovely project…
Dear All, I hope you are keeping well and you are busy with your crafting! Summertime has begun in my part of the world, bringing with it the desire to be near the seashore and the magic that it holds. So, my inspiration led me to create a journal that is all about mermaids! And don’t we love them! I encountered some stunning images while searching through the Graphics Fairy Premium Membership website bundles for this project I enjoyed so much creating my July Design Team junk journal project. I named it: ‘Shimmers of the Oceanside’.
On the cover I have used one of the images from the Bundle Mermaid’s Cove. I love the way gold shimmers onto it giving a nostalgic rustic feeling. I added some handmade papers under the image and I have sewn them on with a turquoise blue thread. I used gold wax to define the edges of the images and the journal’s ridges.
The front page illustration taken from Ocean Blues Ephemera bundle complements so well with the magical lady emerging from water in a rusty blue and grey surrounding. It is almost shimmery…
The ridged spine was calling for something so I added this a ethereal image that I found in the bundle and I framed it with fine butchers twine which I waxed with gold.
One of my very favorite bundles is the Spring Meadows Endpapers. I used them to create paper pockets which run through the journal and tags as well. I believe that they bode well with the nostalgic mermaid theme. They are subtle, yet distinct.
I enjoyed making tabs out of the collage circles. I love the way they define the edge of the book with their design. I attached each one with a clip that I glued under the tabs and this way they are moveable.
I have included images of mermaids and coral on the tea and coffee dyed papers which add to the variety and atmosphere of the book with their deep colors.
I hope that you will enjoy this journal and that it will inspire you to create some summer beauty,
using some of these gorgeous bundles.
