Hey guys, once again one of our fabulous Junk Journal Design Team Members, Beth from Beth’s Journal Boutique, has created a fabulous junk journal for us. As you know, we are featuring one new Junk Journal each week created by our team of talented artists. Our goal is that you be totally inspired by this series! Beth created a beautiful Pastel Junk Journal for us this week. Be sure to check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…you need to scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired?
And now I will let Beth tell you about her project in her own words…
Hi everyone! I am back again sharing my June design team project. I have to say that I had a completely different project planned until I saw the Purple Ephemera bundle released a couple of weeks ago. This bundle includes florals and butterflies in purple, green, turquoise and pink. I’ve always loved these colors and this bundle just called my name! The Purple Ephemera bundle includes digital papers in both 8.5 x 11 and 12 x 12 along with lots of fun journaling cards, stamps, labels and file folders. I’ve used many of these elements to create a shabby chic floral junk journal in a standard travelers notebook size. Let me show you how I have used this beautiful bundle in my journal.
For the cover, I have used some vintage ledger scrapbook paper in a shade of green that matches the bundle. I added a vintage envelope with a purple stamp, some aged cellophane tape, and a piece from one of the bundle printables with my favorite “notes” stamp. A leaf pattern from the same printable details the top and bottom of the journal and a bit of lace and trim was added to the spine; a twine closure completes the cover.
Inspired by the purple stamp paper in the bundle, I have carried the envelope theme from the cover throughout the journal, adding several vintage envelopes in different ways. For this turquoise envelope I have folded the bottom to create a pocket and added a few journaling spots.
I love using file folders in my journals and there are two sizes included in the Purple Ephemera bundle. I have decorated the smaller folder and left it to use as a folder; this would be a great place to add a photo and do some journaling. You could also sew a few papers into the folder to create a mini booklet to add to your journal. The larger folder has a decorative label and was made into a pocket by adding a gusset to each side; I have left this clipped into the journal but it could also be sewn into the center of the signature to create a middle pocket.
I love to mix authentic vintage ephemera and papers with digital images into my journals. For this page, I collaged some of my favourite vintage pieces: some vintage wallpaper, some vintage French calligraphy and some hand written vintage music paper along with a beautiful vintage photograph. It’s not functional , but it sure is pretty! I love the feel of this page.
I have added many of the ephemera pieces into a coffee dyed glassine bag; these can be used as labels and extra embellishments throughout the journal.
To create the shabby chic look, I have added lots of coffee dyed trims, papers and stamping throughout the journal, with a few rusted paperclips used to add in extra images.
Thanks for spending time with me taking a tour through this journal. I hope you have found some inspiration for your own projects and I will see you back here next month with another journal.

This journal took its own path as I was working on it, adding the layers of trim and embellishments to the beautiful Graphics Fairy images to end up with this wonderfully shabby creation. I love the end result!

I must say you really took the purple kit to a whole new level! I liked the kit for the flora but I thought purple isn’t my fav color….that is until I saw your gorgeous journal!! You have a keen eye for colors/composition, just so inspired by the journal. Now I want to make one using purple flowers kit! You also have some great/unique ideas in the journal, thanks for the inspiration!
