12 Vintage Alphabet Lettering Pages
Today we have a beautiful collection of Vintage Alphabet Lettering Pages. These are some pages that I have had on the blog for many years, but they have been hidden away, way back in the archives so probably you haven’t seen most of these before, or if you have it’s probably been a very long time! Any way these are all love ABC pages showing the Alphabet in all sorts of different fonts. They could be used in a variety of different projects, but I think they would make great backgrounds for Collage or Mixed Media Art!
Vintage Alphabet Pages
Such beautiful alphabets don’t you think? Here’s a gorgeous typography page from a vintage book Circa 1920. There are three styles of hand lettering on this page – Italian MS, Half Uncial Treeter, and Cathedral Door. These were given to me by dear friend Meg! She generously scanned these and invited me to share them with all of you. I love how sharp and crisp these calligraphy style letters look. Thanks Meg!
Here’s another gorgeous typography page from the old Circa 1920 lettering book. There are also three different calligraphy typefaces in this example – English Text Capitals, Dürer Blackletter Capitals, and Uncial Capitals. These are of course upper case letters. Such beautiful alphabets don’t you think?
Scanned from the vintage book as well, there are three different calligraphy typefaces in this example – English Text, Dürer Blackletter, and Flourished Blackletter. These are lowercase letters. I love how lovely these letters look. They would make a fun background for a mixed media project!
Old Alphabet Penmanship Samplers
Here is a sampler from a book on Advertising from the early 1900’s. This book is filled with all kinds of amazing things, including many examples of beautiful typography like the one you see above. This one is called Eccentric Egyptian. It is a tad eccentric with its squiggly lines. The commas look like mustaches to me. How fun!
This wonderful vintage typography sample is from a circa 1870’s Penmanship book. It is truly a gorgeous book. The lettering above was titled “Spured Alphabet” in the book. I just loved the unique shape of these letters, and it’s so nice to have upper and lower case versions of it! It would be fun to learn how to draw this typeface!Above is a sample of the Blackletter typeface. Interestingly, it is one of the oldest typefaces, dating back to the 1400s. These early typefaces were reminiscent of handwritten calligraphy. One is Old English and the other is called German Text. Make sure you zoom in on this one! Included are little ornamental doodads that I love!
Vintage Lettering Pages
Here we have another lovely lettering page. This one has some fun quotes on it. I love that it displays the position you should hold your pen. Notice the “Keep Cool” one in the bottom corner. It makes me think of the “Keep Calm …” Great advice!
This is another one of the lovely lettering pages. Now that I look at it, I think this might be my favorite yet! It shows you how to create some lower case letters that have cross hatching. This page comes from a circa 1920 Typography book.
