Hello everyone, my name is Emily Oliver from @pinkpaper44 and this is my second journal for the Graphic Fairy design team. For this month I really wanted to create a fall journal, but we still have a little summer so I made a specimen junk journal with both flowers, mushrooms and birds a perfect mixture of summer/fall. This journal is listed in my Etsy shop.
I found a vintage receipt/coupon organizer in my stash. That was just the right size for the cover. I did a little forest fairy collaging on the front adding a few labels here and there. And I couldn’t help but add a little mushroom dangle on the spine to give it that finished touch It measures 7” long, 5” wide and 2” thick.
This first page I created with a junk mail envelope that I had folded and created two pockets, one that flipped down and then the larger one that has a window. I made a large tag to go in the window pocket, collaging it with some brown tissue paper, and adding images.
I have a file folder die that I used to cut these out then did a collage on the front here with some of their mushroom and other images to create a specimen file folder pocket, then filling them with tags and other ephemera.
This Journal does have lots of tuck spots and pockets filled with ephemera and tags. Here are some tags that I did a digital collaging with some of their images than printed them out.
The specimen box is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a while, and was very inspired by Nick the book Smith. I first created a large box, then making the smaller boxes to put inside I put all of the extra labels in here with a few specimens, pinecones,a feather and some dried lavender. I think it would work great for a field trip to add some of your own specimens. I will definitely be making more like this in the future.
Thank you so much for reading this post! I hope you enjoyed it and found some inspiration in this junk journal

Gorgeous journal, love the layouts you used and beautiful images too!
Linda Kay says
This journal is absolutely delightful! It would also make a nice tunnel book with the front cover leading inside. The only thing I would add is a small hand held magnifying glass. Well Done Emily!
