12 Black and White Butterfly Clipart
Today we have a memorable collection of Black and White Butterfly Clipart! This is a beautiful set of images, many of them were scanned from Antique Natural History books in my collection, although not all of them. Some of them show a grouping of Butterflies along with plants, while others are singles. We even have a couple of Caterpillars in the scene with them. I’m not sure which species a lot of these are, or if they are males or females. I’m sure we probably have some readers that would know though. Many of these would look so pretty colored in with markers or colored pencils. I think the single ones would be nice to fussy cut-out. All of them are nice for your Spring or Summer-themed Collage or mixed-media projects. The Natural History Prints would be wonderful to use on some pretty Notecards I think!
Butterfly Clipart Black and White
This is an interesting looking Vintage Moth image from my early Natural History Book. The moth is called a “Death’s Head Hawk Moth.” If you look closely you can see a skull like pattern at the top of its back. Thus the “Death’s Head” name. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like that around here before! Do any of you guys have these where you live?
Here is another lovely insect to use in your art!

Here is the latest addition to this collection. This one has an Art Nouveau aesthetic to it. It has a pretty frame with a ribbon around it!
Natural History Butterfly Clip Art
Here are a few more insects for you to play with. In this drawing you see seven beautiful butterflies, I think the one at the top looks like a Monarch butterfly. Some have their wings spread wide while others are shown from the side. These are also from the Natural History book.
This is a Charming Butterfly Group with Flowers! The Image was scanned from an early, pre 1860’s, Natural History Book. In this lovely illustration we see a grouping of Butterfly species who are resting on some Wildflowers. Perhaps they are trying to get a bit of nectar. Such a pretty scene!
Here are some wonderful Butterflies on a branch, a scene that you might spot in the woodlands. These are delicate looking creatures with thin black veins. This clip art is from a very old Natural History book, pre 1860’s. I think it would be fabulous to print out and color, don’t you?
Above is a lovely Black and White Butterfly Drawing. These might actually be moths, but they are beautiful nonetheless. You can see the undersides of the one at the top. This comes from an early Natural History Book as well!
Here we have another lovely Butterfly Clipart Black and White from the Early Natural History Book. Shown above is an impressive Botanical Engraving with a big Butterfly and a large spiky Thistle flower. So pretty! Also from the early Natural History Book, this is a fun Black and White Butterfly Drawing featuring a beautifully marked Butterfly along with a long Caterpillar. This one would also be fun to color in!
Featured here is another gorgeous Engraving from a Vintage Natural History Book! This one features a beautiful Moth and Caterpillar on a Leaf. I think it is very nice just as it is, but it would be fun to color in too!

Death’s Head Hawkmoths live in Europe, Africa, and Asia. I found them in Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death's-head_hawkmoth
Fun wikitrivia: they can make a squeak to scare predators.
