Hey, everyone! Tanja, of madebytanja, one of our amazing new Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Coffee Dyed Ephemera Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Tanja tell you all about her incredible project…
Hello, my name is Tanja from madebytanja and I am very happy to introduce you to my third journal here. I chose a special size for this journal because the spine is quite wide for the 4 signatures. I used old wrapping paper for the cover to give it a second chance. I love using elastic binding and this is how I attached my signatures. As a showstopper, I used some clusters and wrote CREATE. All the pages and accessories I used are colored with coffee, because that’s part of my style and couldn’t be missing from this journal.
The signatures only consist of 4 pages, but when decorated they form a thick little piece, which I really like. It all fits together so well that I was amazed at how thick it turned out in the end.
I often find it difficult to design the first page. Where do you start, in the middle or rather at the beginning! I bravely took the step and started in the middle without knowing where the journey
would take me. I added some pockets to continue to have small hiding places. It mostly consists of leftover and reused materials.
I left a lot of space to still have free space for writing and every now and then I made circle openings to give a small preview of the next page.
I tried to keep my preferences and continue my handwriting by incorporating lots of stamps and lots of clusters.
I really like to make pages pretty full. I create a lot of things myself, using stamps, stickers and scraps that I then stick onto pockets or blank pages.
I also found my preferences in tags that I installed on some pages and also equipped these with stickers and clusters.
This is how I create tags or clusters that I can then simply insert later. I also like to use washi tape in my things to loosen things up and you can use it to create a different pattern on the page and create different highlights. When opened, this journal is filled with lots of details. Like lace, ribbons and many others.
I also tried to incorporate some bellibands so that I have even more options for hiding and storing small letters
At the end, the whole journal is tied together with a ribbon all around and it keeps its shape. There is a little surprise on every page and that makes this journal very special.

What a pretty journal. I love the effect of the coffee dying but my papers smear if I get them wet. What kind of printer do you use? Thanks!!

Thank you very much if you like my journal so much. I use a laser HP laser printer. I print the pages first and then color them with coffee. I apply coffee with a brush and don’t drink it into a bowl
