Today, let’s learn How to Draw Manatee! In this post you will find step by step instructions for creating a simple Manatee drawing. I’ll walk you through the steps of making this super sweet large aquatic Mammal. This fun lesson was scanned from an early 1923 drawing book. This book is a one that I just added to my collection and I’m excited to share some of the pages with you guys! At the bottom of the post you will find a printable practice worksheet that you can print out with some blank space so that you can practice right on the page. Practice them and then create a Manatee by drawing it in your own style! Now let’s get drawing! For Personal Use.
How to Draw a Manatee Step by Step
Kids or grown ups alike can follow these simple steps with this adorable Manatee Drawing guide! I would recommend creating this with a pencil, as you will need to erase a couple of lines along the way. But you can always draw over him with an ink Pen or marker when you are done, to define him some more. Have fun creating Manatee!
Manatee Drawing Step 1
Step 1: Let’s draw the Manatee’s body. Sketch out a simple oval shape that is leaning to the right side.
Step 2:
Step 2: Next draw a shape that almost looks like an incomplete upside down heart for his nose or snout. And then a downward curving line under it for the Manatee’s mouth.
Step 3: Erase the line from his body, that was showing through his nose. Now add the details for his face as shown above. You will see he has 2 nostrils high up on his nose, his eye is to the side and there is a little white spot for the highlight in his eye. The nose curls up on the left side and their are a few wrinkle lines.
Step 4:
Step 4: Let’s draw two flippers on him now, one will be in the center of his oval body and the other one is off to the right side.
Step 5:
Step 5: Let’s draw his tail next. It’s a simple shape that looks a bit like a small upside down mushroom. At this point you have a very nice Simple Cartoon Manatee drawing and you could stop at this point if you wanted. He’s so sweet looking!
For those who want more of a challenge you can try your hand at adding all of the extra details below.
Step 5: You can see some dots have been added to his nose for his whiskers. You can create a scene around him like you see above if you want. He is in the water, chewing on some leafy greens with Palm trees in the scene behind him.
Step 6:
Step 6: The only thing left to do now is to color in your adorable Manatee! Go grab your markers, Crayola crayons, oil pastels or color pencils, or whatever you have on hand, and finish your artwork masterpiece! I colored this one in with a gray tone, but you can let your creativity go wild and use whatever colors you like!
