So here it is, the final post documenting my husband’s (Mr Fairy!) weight loss journey. You might recall in my last 2 posts, where I told you guys that my husband had decided that it was time to shed a few pounds. In my first post, I explained that by making just a few changes he had lost 4 pounds. And then in my second post, I talked about how he had lost an additional 11 pounds, on top of that, in less than a month! Well I’m happy to report that here we are 6 weeks later from where we first started, and he has lost a grand total of 17 pounds! He went from 223 – 206! Yay! According to Mr Fairy, this is the lightest that he has been in 20 years! Just to reiterate these are the changes that he made that brought about losing those pounds:
- For dinner he’s focused on eating a smaller portion of meat and a much larger portion of vegetables, as well as keeping an eye on the total calories
- Instead of eating a high calorie sweet for dessert, he satisfies his sweet tooth with a delicious Fiber One Dessert Bar or Cookie Bar
- He’s eating dinner earlier in the evening
- He replaced his breakfast (which was a high-calorie granola bar) with a Fiber One Dessert Bar
- He’s continued with his daily walks and/or evening bike ride
Here’s a little bit of info about the bars that he’s been eating. The bars are all less than 150 calories each; some are even 90 calories! And they come in delicious flavors like the New Cheesecake Bars in Salted Caramel Cheesecake and Strawberry Cheesecake! Cinnamon Coffee Cake is another great flavor! They’ve got Cookie Bars too… like their delicious New Soft Baked Peanut Butter Cookie, the New Crunchy Sugar Cookie and Chocolate Chewy Bars. Yum!! Each Bar has 20% daily value of Fiber as well, another important consideration at this stage in our lives! With Fiber One you don’t have to fight your instincts, or your sweet tooth! Go on. Have one. 🙂

My tip for you and hubby is to drink lots and lots of water; at least 64 oz each day. And eat small amounts of protein during the day. You will stay hydrated, and keep your metabolism moving. Veggies fill you up and the calories are low 🙂 Happy weight loss

I eat smaller meals(Breakfast & dinner I eat only) love to eat salads as a snack or a main meal. I eat 3 or 4 snacks healthy ones in between meals fruit, yogurt, raw veggies, granola, nuts to keep calories & junk food at bay.
I walk several times a week up to 3 miles at a time and am going to start jogging soon now that they weather is getting cooler.

We eat out at least twice a week, and restaurants are notorious for serving WAAAY too much food. I eat exactly half of my portion, and take the rest home for lunch or dinner the next day or so.

My tip for cutting back calories is to cut out calories from your drinks first. Many people consume a third of their calories from drinks alone and this is an easy way to start cutting the calories. Stay away from sugary drinks and pop. I lost a few pounds just by cutting the pop and drinking more unsweetened tea with lemon.

I’m not so much of a sweets person. My guilty pleasure are salty snacks. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find anything sweet gluten free and what I’ve found so far is usually cardboard flavored. I’ll have to check and see if they have anything I can eat.

My husband lost 30 lbs. by cutting sugar from his diet. Many products are loaded with sugar so he watches his intake and avoids adding it to foods.

I am currently trying the 21 day fix portion control which made me realize just how much food I was actually eating. I didn’t buy the whole system, just the containers, since I have COPD and can’t do much exercise. Back several years ago I did a program from church and that was about eating half of what you would normally eat and that worked really well for me. I do watch my carbs also!! How awesome that your husband has lost 17 pounds. I’m so happy for him and I’m sure he will continue to lose even more! I will definitely have to try those Fiber One bars.

Based on my own experience, one way to reduce caloric intake is to be careful what comes into the house in the first place.
