Milliner’s Junk Journal
Hey guys, once again one of our fabulous returning Junk Journal Design Team Members, Lynne Morgado, has created an amazing junk journal for us. She shares her incredible Milliner’s Junk Journal with you! Each week we spotlight another Mixed Media project, created by one of the amazing Designers on our team. The designers are tasked to use images from our Premium Membership Site to provide inspiration for your own projects. Be sure to check out her Show and Tell Video below. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see her video. Be prepared to be inspired! I will now allow Lynne to tell you all about her art in her own words…
The inspiration for this junk journal was literally sitting right in front of me. The cover for this journal I made several months ago. The cover then sat on my worktable since then. A small & chunky blue striped ticking fabric covered book. When I saw the Milliner Bundle I knew it would be a perfect fit for my little hardcover book. I then added the metal bookplate and metal corners to give the cover some more interest and detail. I love the story The Graphics Fairy created for the Milliner Bundle of a 3rd generation Philadelphia hat maker aptly named Hattie. My journal belongs to another hat maker named Clara and her shop is in Victorian London. This location allowed me to incorporate more French ephemera images as Clara often purchased fabrics, laces and embellishments from shops in Paris. I am sure she found creative inspiration from the Parisian designers as well.
The journal itself is not overly embellished. It is the book that Clara uses for her work. She designs in it, takes orders in it and saves various receipts and advertisements in it as well. It is more of a practical journal. I enlarged several of the advertisement images to use as pages. These I found in both The Milliner Bundle and the Mini Ephemera Bundle.
For a pop of color I used a page from the Vintage Paperie bundle with a bright butterfly on it.
A colorful floral vintage fabric was perfect to create a couple of pockets and I tucked in a coordinating journaling card from The Milliner Bundle into each.
There is a lot of writing and sketching space in the journal, but I always like to include colorful, beautiful images to inspire.
Where I had so much fun was filling up a small wooden box with ephemera, textile samples, envelopes and more. This box would sit on Clara’s workable or desk so she could show her clients samples of the embellishments available.
The ribbon holder images from The Seamstress Bundle are so pretty and match the mini envelopes from that bundle. The circle images from The Milliner Bundle I printed onto cardstock and then I created double sided circles gluing the images together. Just fun little ephemera pieces tucked in.
Including envelope collections with my journals is one of my favorite things. I used printables from The Mini Ephemera Bundle and The Lace Maker Bundle to create some envelopes for this collection. The bright blue envelope is so special and unique.
My favorite part of this whole collection is the textile samplers I made. I have seen so many journal makers creating these and I knew this theme was perfect for me to try my hand at it. For the paper toppers I used gorgeous pastel labels from the Pastel Advertising Bundle and also a lace image again from The Lace Maker Bundle.I will show you more details of all of these smaller ephemera pieces in my flip through video. I hope you will join me to see all the goodies in this journal collection.

Hello! Are you new to The Graphics Fairy?

Hi. I’ve always appreciated, used and loved the many graphics you share, for crafts and cards. I wonder if you could explain or more define what a “junk journal” is, and what it’s used for? They look fascinating but not sure how to go about one. Thanks, and another thanks for your great site.
