Mixed Media Art Dress
Hello friends. Today I am sharing a delightful project by Tejae Floyde from Tejae’s Art, one of our talented Mixed Media Design Team Members. She has created an adorable Mixed Media Art Dress with collage elements for us. As you know, we feature a new Mixed Media project each week created by one of our extraordinary artisans. Our goal is that you be creatively inspired by this series! Be sure to check out the video Show and Tell at the bottom of the page…you will need to scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will let Tejae tell you all about her Mixed Media project in her own words…
Floral Dream Art Dress
Hi, this is Tejae, from Tejae’s Art. Do I have a treat for you today! I’m sharing my latest mixed media and collage design team project. This sweet “Floral Dream” Art Dress uses images available from The Graphics Fairy’s Premium Membership site. Now let’s have a closer look.
My Inspiration
Spring is here in my neck of the woods. Trees are budding, tiny flowers are popping up, and grass is turning green. However, Mother Nature has added snow into our forecast. With the dusting of snow on the ground and 20 degree breezes, my inspiration is naturally for warmer “dress” weather and getting outside to tend to my flower beds. LOL. The Graphics Fairy has many images to choose from for any project that needs a vintage feel. I love browsing through the collage sheets and bundles. There is so much wonderful art to choose from.
Details
This vintage inspired dress whispers the sweet promise of spring with floral imagery, vintage elements, and layered floral motifs. It’s like taking a leisurely stroll through a secret lush floral garden, sweet smelling floral, and bringing all your senses back to nature in a peaceful and calming way.
The Pink and Blue Floriculture Bundle is a lovely mix of some of my favorite flowers: stachys, anemone, petunias, beardtongue, and daisies.
For my dress fabric I chose plain cream colored cotton muslin. Lightweight cotton cloth in a plain weave is easy to sew by hand or machine. It’s also fairly inexpensive.
I designed a lush layered collage in photoshop to print and transfer onto the muslin. There are a few of the pink and blue flowers, vintage text, and a couple of friendly garden visitors – a bee and a dragonfly in the collage. (See below for links to these.)
The dress detail includes brown thread for the hem. Tiny white beads represent the gentle spring snowflakes. The precious little hand stamped and hand sewn “hope” patch is a promise for spring to come. A couple of small pearl colored vintage buttons and vintage lace that’s been aged and distressed make the dress more realistic. Tiny layered pink and blue fabric flowers help to tie in the graphic imagery with the layered elements.
The handmade wire hanger adds a vintage touch and allows the dress to be displayed anywhere you’d like to hang it. The art dress can hang on a wall, near a picture, or combined with a favorite collection of antique motifs.
Ephemera Images Used in the Art Dress
I combined several flowers from The Pink & Blue Floriculture bundle (Link above) – bearded tongue, pink stachys, blue lechenaultia, river daisy, and pink anemone. I also added a bee and dragonfly from the Wonderful Wings & Things Bundle. Other ephemera images I used are: Vintage Text and a French Invoice from the French Ephemera Collection and #13 English Real Estate Contract from the Script Ephemera Bundle.
