Newspaper and Ephemera Journal
Hey, everyone! Tanja, of madebytanja, one of our amazing new Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Newspaper and Ephemera Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. Our Design Team Members select from the 100’s of Vintage Image Bundles on our Premium Membership Site, for their creations, in order to show you beautiful ways to use those images. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Tanja tell you all about her incredible project…
Hello, my name is Tanja from madebytanja and I am very happy to present to you my second journal. With the many bundles that can be found in the member’s area, I have again chosen some beautiful images for my journal. I love laminating my journals because it gives them strength and makes them easy to store; laminating the cover is simply part of the design of my journals. This time I thought about a different size because I wanted to make a different format. I completely stamped the cover, laminated it and stuck a few stickers on it.
For this cover, I designed a large envelope that is 1 centimetre deep which holds plenty of embellishments, stickers and clusters that can be used later for decorating the pages. It fastens with eyelets on the envelope edge. This journal has three signatures.
For my first page, I used my favorite paper from the French Newspaper & Ephemera set to start with. All the paper I used I colored with coffee after printing. I like to create clusters that I then put aside for further processing. In this journal, you will find a lot of clusters that I have incorporated.
My clusters usually arise when I tidy my desk, I always have smaller scraps of paper lying around and more often than not I just sew them together. I use many different things to design my cluster. In a can I have prepared polymer clay molds that I like to use. I simply stamped these molded clay pieces and then baked them according to the instructions.
What is also great to sew in is fly screen fabric. There are no limits to journaling and you can use whatever you want.
In my journal there is enough space for notes, photos or anything else you would like to add, I printed the back of the design paper with diamonds.
I used a lot of my stamps because I really like the combination. They go great with the design papers of the different bundles and also with the colored paper. Sometimes I can’t stop with the stamping and feel that if there is space, a stamp could go there!
Here I open the envelope again to give a glimpse of what I keep inside.

What a pretty journal. I love the effect of the coffee dying but my papers smear if I get them wet. What kind of printer do you use? Thanks!!

Thank you very much if you like my journal so much. I use a laser HP laser printer. I print the pages first and then color them with coffee. I apply coffee with a brush and don’t drink it into a bowl
