Woodland Autumn Junk Journal
Hey, everyone! Lesly Williams of Crescent Moon Journals, one of our amazing Junk Journal Design Team Members, created a fabulous Woodland Autumn Junk Journal for us this week. As you know, we feature one new Junk Journal project each week created by one of our creative team of artists. We hope you will be totally inspired by this series!
Therefore, please make sure you check out the video tour at the bottom of the page…please scroll all the way down to see it. Are you ready to be inspired? I will step out of the way and let Lesly tell you all about her incredible project…
Hello everyone! I am Lesly, Crescent Moon Journals, and I’m excited to share my fall Graphics Fairy Design team project with you. For this journal, I chose an old book cover that I layered
with beautiful marbled and handmade paper. Heavily textured pieces of bark that I have been saving for such a project were then applied to the cover. A Pheasant feather, flower, and a lichen-covered branch I’d also been saving, became a natural “next step” addition to the cover. A favorite dragonfly image from the Graphics Fairy Premium membership site was applied with eye-catching effect.
The back cover is layered with marbled paper and fluted paper along with another piece of bark. For the spine I used burlap ribbon covered with A vine like trim to which I wired a piece of driftwood.
Upon opening the journal you see handmade paper with leaves imbedded for the pastedown endpaper and a tiny wax seal. The first page is adorned with my favorite Graphics Fairy Owl who I’ve placed on a bit of bark. You’ll also see a bit of collaged napkin with a tiny bit of gold leaf.
On this page I used a piece of fabric made from sewn down threads to make a corner pocket and added a dried sunflower from my garden. The next center signature spread I used twine intertwined with leaves for trim on the sides. The pocket is painted crinkled brown wrapping paper. It’s also adorned with two lovely butterflies from the Graphics Fairy.
On the left is shown the butterfly bookmark I made. To the right I used Japanese paper glued down to coffee dyed paper for the page itself. Then collaged another two pieces of different Japanese paper to that. The pocket is a piece of handmade Italian marbled paper to which I added a Graphics Fairy pumpkin/squash. Inside the pocket is an antique advertising card and a CDV photo of a fellow who looks like he enjoys the outdoors.
The first page to the left has a tuck made from the twine with leaves, a bit of decorative paper, and maple leaves fussy cut from the Autumn Song bundle. A tag laminated with dried flowers inside. To the right is more Japanese paper with a piece of bark and a wonderful bird fussy cut from the Winter Birds bundle.
To the left I have used a fabric flower to make a sort of belly band which I’ve slipped an old calling card underneath. To the right, is some translucent paper in which you can see the paint swatch I created. On the next page you see the paint swatch in autumn colors, which is removable, and the little bird I painted and stenciled tree bark. I was surprised to see how nicely that paper took watercolor.
This center signature spread was created from an antique document that I folded up to make double pockets. I embellished with two wax seals placed on top of two bits of lace and made two journaling cards to go in the pockets.
The page on the right is a smaller page and I used one of my rubber stamps to decorate it then added a burlap ribbon pocket embellished with some gauze and a real feather.
On the left I’ve collaged the page with napkin and a snippet of this wonderful green textured ribbon. I’ve made the pocket from the same ribbon and added some fussy cut leaves. I stuffed the pocket with a journaling card I created and an old Arm & Hammer card. On the right more Japanese paper.
On this next page I’ve embossed tree bark and added an embossed spruce tree tuck spot which I embellished with gauze and an illustration of a pussy willow. It’s stuffed with antique trade cards. On the right is a treated napkin which I made into a side pocket.
Lastly is a center spread of various papers I’ve sewn together and added a paper feather and a beautiful bird.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this and please watch the video as it is much more detailed and shows every page. Thanks again to The Graphics Fairy for having me on their design team.
