DIY French Cafe Towel and Printable
This week’s Crafty Project is another French Towel project and printable! I thought it would make more sense to post this over here on my new DIY blog, since it is a DIY Project and all. The image came from an antique French Invoice, I just used a portion of it and enlarged the lettering.
(Use this image when you need a reverse image for transfer projects, as with Iron on Transfers or Citra Solv transfers etc.)
Here’s the Before photo. I just used some plain Flour Sack Towels from Walmart. They were super cheap! I think I paid around $5 or $6 for the pack of 5.
I used the mirrored image and used the Citra Solv Transfer method.
You can find the instructions and a tutorial HERE. If you can’t find Citra Solv locally (most health food stores carry it) you can order it online Here, at Amazon.
Here’s the finished towel! It took me all of 5 minutes to do. I’m all about fast and easy projects!! I think it looks pretty cute though, and of course you can also use this on pillows, tote bags, runners, place mats or anything else that you can think of!

Sorry to say, but I have the same questions posted above. How to I print images
onto flour sack towels and what can I do to ensure it will not wash out of the flour sack towels. I would love to print some to sell. Thank you for all your inspiration.

What did you do after adding the print to save it from washing away in the washer? Love you blogs! Thanks for all the FREE resources!

Hi Staci, It should be permanent. But I would do a test on a sample swatch of fabric to be sure, and test it out in your washer.

Hi! I’m quite new to this and just have to ask you – this image is black text on white background, how can I print it without the white? The white around the text isn’t quite pretty on a non-white table runner. Please tell me what to do. 🙂

So cool! How do you run the towel through the printer? I’m assuming that you don’t want to trim the edges of the towel off using the label method. Let me know!! This is such a neat idea.
Thanks

What sort of printer did you use? Everything I’ve read on the Citra-Solv said it had to be an old fashioned print made from a printer that used old toner cartridges, not inkjet ..I so hope that’s not true. Since I have two bottles of the stuff on the way to my house as we speak. =x

This image is so elegant!!! Time to get my Citra Solv and Walmart flour sack towels out from the closet. Thanks so much for sharing – and reversing the image. Sometimes I forget to do that.
Happy Memorial Day weekend!

Hi Karen! I tried this project using iron transfer paper and ended up with a huge chunk of clear paper stuck on the rest of the towel! 🙁
Is there any way to get a nicer finish? What am I doing wrong? Would love your input, since I love this project and want to get it right. 🙂
Loooooove your site and all of your ideas. Thanks for all the great graphics you let us use and enjoy! 🙂
