Hi everyone, how are you. It’s Andrea from The Cottage Market. I am here today to share another quick and easy DIY. This time it is How to Color an Image on Glass. I will show you how super simple it is to paint the image on the glass without any tracing or any other kind of transfer. I used the adorable Owls Coloring Page and there are many other ones waiting for you here at the wonderful Graphics Fairy Site! When you see how simple it is I bet you will come up with some fun projects. So let me show you…it won’t take long at all!

Supplies:
Here are the supplies you will need…a glass vase…jar…plate or any other glass item of your choosing, scotch tape, scissors, Sharpie Oil Paint Pens {for non washable glassware} or Pebeo Vitrea Markers {For items that you want to be able to hand wash} and your coloring page of choice.
Pick out your favorite image you would like on your glass item and cut it out.
Simply cut off 2 pieces of scotch tape and place the sticky side up …half on the back of the image and half facing out so you can attach the item to the glass.
Now take the taped image and with the image facing you and the stick tape facing you…slide into your jar or in the back of a plate…find exactly where you would like it placed and adhere with tape!
Now it’s time to use the Paint Pens to color like you would in a book without having to transfer the image over to your glass which is usually very difficult..all you have to do is color like you would in a book. It really helps to outline the area that you are coloring and then fill it in. If you need a second coat…let dry and then apply another coat. If you are doing a lot of detail you will need fine and a a few extra fine. I thought that fine was enough…but I really would have rather had extra fine for the outlining (you learn from my mistakes : ). So evaluate your coloring area and purchase accordingly. You can also use glass paint that you apply with a brush if you would like. You can size your item to the size you need…I just wanted to show you how simple it was for you to get the image on glass so you can paint easily and no transfer lines to cover or wash off…it’s a clean deal!
Keep in mind, your image won’t be waterproof if you’re using the Sharpie Paint Pens, it’s best to only use the Sharpies only on Decorative Projects, like Glass Vases, Ornaments etc. If you want your image to be waterproof, then try using Vitrea Markers instead. They cost more but your design will last longer!
A few other tips…make sure your glass is dry and clean (very important), allow colors to dry…if you apply another color to a wet color it will get muddy and your pen will get yucky to…so a little bit of patience goes a long way. Now go explore the Coloring Page and there are other line drawings that would work amazingly fabulous also! You can dress up your mason jars…vases…dishes and so much more. I hope you enjoy learning how to Color an Image on Glass! One thing I know for sure is that you will have tons of fun! I will see you all soon…but till then if you want to say hi…come and see me over at The Cottage Market…it’s where I hang out!
Hugs,
Andrea

Thank you so much for sharing this easy, fun technique with us. I’m an older mother(56) of a 6 year old son, I’m happy to find projects we can do together that are simple but keeps his ADHD personality interested. Merry Christmas!

Oh yea, so glad you can do this fun project with your son…and you aren’t old 🙂

I totally don’t get this. Sorry. Are you basically taping the image image to the glass & then coloring it? does the tape wrap around the whole glass sticky side out? Are you painting some of the tape? Seriously. I don’t get it at all 🙁
graphicsfairy says
Hi Laura, the image is taped inside the glass so that the outside is able to be painted and the image inside the glass is your guide. I hope that helps 🙂

Oh my gosh! Duh! Thank you so much for responding. I thought you might not check back in again. Thanks again. And thanks that I can leave a comment without signing up for some service. I’m in the boondocks with dial-up & it’s so difficult… sometimes impossible.

No worries Laura, I am happy to help 🙂 Have a great day!
