DIY Statement Necklace

Hi everyone, it’s Andrea from The Cottage Market.  I can’t believe the end of February is here and hopefully Spring will be on its way very very soon!  So with the hopes of Spring…I thought it would be fun to create a statement necklace that would bring a bit of sunshine and flowers into your life!  It is really amazing what you can create with The Graphic Fairy’s images…did you ever think you would be decoupaging wooden beads with them?  Well today that is exactly what you are going to do!  Remember…you can use any of the incredible images here at The Graphics Fairy sized appropriately…do you know how many options that is!  I chose some Vintage Floral Images. Let’s get to creating this DIY Statement Necklace!

First you need your supplies:  Wooden beads, paint, glue, resized images of your choice, ribbon, paint brush and a very sharp little scissors for detailing.

Now take a good look at your images and start selecting what you would like to cut to apply to your beads.

Select the color or colors you would like to paint your beads.  I find it so much easier to paint when the bead is on a skewer…try it and you will never paint them another way again.

Now take your cut images…brush a simple white glue or Mod Podge on the back of the image…now place it on the painted bead and press all the way around the curve…smoothing the image out so it is nice and smooth.  Now repeat until you achieve the look that you want on your bead.  Just keep repeating till you have the amount of beads that you would like.  You can then seal the beads with the Mod Podge…allow the to dry.

Now it is time to string the beads.  You can use ribbon…string…velvet…it is totally your choice.  Tie a bow or a slip know and it is ready to wear!  This is such a versatile project…you can create a necklace…bracelet even earrings in a huge array of styles!  I sure hope you experiment and create many different styles with these easy steps.

Hope you enjoyed this little DIY Craft!  I think you are going to have tons of fun with it.  Everything you need you can find at your craft!  I will see you again really soon but in the mean time if you would like to visit…drop by The Cottage Market…I’m always there : )
